On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Riverside City Council will discuss the status of the Riverside Transmission Reliability Project (RTRP), which will construct above-ground transmission lines in a fire-prone area along Norco’s portion of the Santa Ana River. On March 21, 2024, the CPUC voted 3-0 to reject the City of Norco’s Petition for Modification to reconsider the full undergrounding alternative of the RTRP. Following the CPUC's decision, the Riverside City Council will now consider options to move the project forward, which include proceeding with the project design as approved or modifying the project design to underground all or a portion of the transmission lines.
The City of Norco continues to strongly advocate for the full undergrounding of the RTRP to protect public safety and decrease wildfire risks to Norco and surrounding communities. Residents may submit public comments to the Riverside City Council in support of undergrounding the transmission lines along the Santa Ana River in Norco (Agenda Item 25). Residents may submit comments in-person, by phone, via Zoom or via email to City_Clerk@riversideca.gov.
